Frequently asked questions
Do I need root to install termbrowser?
No. The installer writes to /usr/local by default, which needs root, but you can install into your home directory with PREFIX=$HOME/.local sudo ./install.sh or simply copy the termbrowser script to ~/.local/bin.
Does termbrowser render JavaScript?
No. Pages are converted to text by lynx, so JavaScript-heavy sites will not work. Static articles, documentation, wikis and text-first services work well.
Is lynx included in the download?
No. lynx is a separate GPL-licensed program and is not bundled. Install it with your package manager, for example sudo apt install lynx on Debian or Ubuntu.
Where are bookmarks stored?
In ~/.termbrowser_bookmarks.json. The file is ordinary JSON, so it can be backed up, edited or versioned with your dotfiles.
How do I uninstall termbrowser?
Remove the installed script with sudo rm /usr/local/bin/termbrowser (or the path you chose) and optionally delete ~/.termbrowser_bookmarks.json and ~/.cache/termbrowser.
